Voices aweigh: When "On the Town" opens at Muhlenberg College, director Charles Richter wants the audience to feel as though they're transported to the show's 1944 opening with Leonard Bernstein's rich score, a zingy, fast-paced book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and choreography inspired by Jerome Robbins. "The show is a time-honored classic that captures the young soaring spirit of the country during World War II," Richter says. The cast of 40 Muhlenberg students includes, above, left to right, Jessie MacBeth (Claire), James Patefield (Ozzie), Kimberly Dodson (Ivy), George Primavera (Gabey), Sari Weinerman (Hildy) and Joe Spiotta (Chip). Performances: 8 p.m. Oct. 26 - 27, Nov. 1 - 2; 2, 8 p.m. Nov. 3; 2 p.m. Oct. 28, Nov. 4, Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts, Muhlenberg College, 2400 Chew St., Allentown. Just "Kidding": Emily Bergl, above, returns to Bethlehem with her critically-acclaimed "Kidding on the Square" cabaret show, 7 p.m. Nov. 4, Fowler Blast Furnace Room, ArtsQuest Center, SteelStacks, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem. Bergyl, best-known for roles in the movie, "The Rage: Carrie 2," and TV's "Desperate Housewives," dazzled the audience this past April at SteelStacks with her performance of "NY I Love You." Bergl's "Kidding on the Square" garnered rave reviews from The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg News and The New York Times' Stephen Holden: "Emily Bergl, an incandescent kewpie doll with a bright Betty Boop-inflected chirp, a defiant flounce and a sharp comedic edge, took the Oak Room of the Algonquin Hotel by storm." Tickets: 610-332-3378, artsquest.org
