LOWER MACUNGIE TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Attorney requests Hamilton Crossings project be approved
Attorney Joe Zator appeared before the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners Oct. 18 on behalf of the Hamilton Crossings project. He is seeking approval of the original zoning, sub-development and land development ordinance plans.
It is understood a minewash problem and PennDOT have caused some problems at this site. Even though the plans have changed several times over these issues, the approval will be under the April 2009 zoning and SALDO.
Commissioner Douglas Brown revised the motion to approve this under the 2009 Zoning and SALDO.
Neil Newman, of Clearview Manor, is asking for handicap ramps. He said his family has to walk in the street with a stroller because of the lack of ramps. This has been forwarded on to Public Works.
Resident Elaine Harrison complained about the traffic at Brookside Road and Hamilton Boulevard and said making a left turn from Brookside going south onto Hamilton is very frustrating. Sometimes it take several light changes before a left turn can be made. The commissioners said this is an intersection that will be studied when the Hamilton Crossings project is started.
Scott Hynes of Boy Scout Troop 131, has requested the use of the township building parking lot for the annual food drive Nov. 10. This was approved.
The request for the Environmental Advisory Council to have a Facebook page has been declined. It was suggested multiple pages within a municipality would not benefit the township.
The Board of Commissioners is suggesting Act 13 be opposed by the Environmental Advisory Board. This project would eliminate a dam by the Wild Cherry Lane bridge and would then cause water to flow faster and possibly cause problems for the bridge structure.
An application was made to PennDOT to install traffic lights and recreate the intersection of Schoeneck Road and Route 100.
The residents of the Graymoor development are upset about the Greenways walking path in their neighborhood which follows the creek. The commissioners said the path is well beyond property lines. The residents were used to this being an open area even though it is outside of their property line.
Resident Bob Verbosh has requested a dog park in Lower Macungie. This would be citizen driven with fundraising being done by those interested.
Brian Hastings wrote about a traffic concern along Wild Cherry Lane. He said cars park all over the place during youth association soccer games, some even in intersections. They speed through the development and do U-turns with no concern for the residents of the development. Hastings had pictures showing cars parked on corners with their back ends out in the intersection. It was suggested the State Police visit this area during these games to help curtail these behaviors.
