Becahi showdown on Saturday

The Parkland football team is riding high after a 41-7 win on homecoming weekend against Freedom last week. The Trojans are currently riding a five-game winning streak, and in large part it is because of the play of their defense. Their offense can score with the best of them, but the 11 that line up on the defensive side of the ball have given Parkland (5-2, 5-1 LVC) great opportunities to score.

During the current streak, with wins over Northampton, Liberty, Whitehall, Nazareth and Freedom, the Trojans have outscored their opponents 191-51. The defense has pitched two shutouts, and the touchdown given up to Freedom, happened while the defense was on the sidelines.

Shaun Heist, Zach Gurinowich, Naze Haddad, David Barber, Xavier Roden, Paul Tajiri and Tanner Stengel make up the front seven that have caused opposing quarterbacks and running backs trouble. Eli Redmond and the Elder brothers, Jarel and Jarey, have also been lockdown defenders.

Bethlehem Catholic (1-6) has had trouble putting up points. The Golden Hawks were shutout at Nazareth last week 30-0. Their lone win came over a Liberty team that was winless at the time. Becahi looks to generate its offense on the ground. Three different running backs have recorded touchdowns within the last three games (Will Ward, Michael McDaniel, and Joseph Ruggiero).

The running game has been the key to success recently for the Trojans as well. Redmond and Jarel Elder have rushed for over 100 yards a piece in each of the last two games.

Parkland is not looking past Becahi, and each week is a pivotal game towards qualifying for the District 11 tournament.
