Charles E. Arnold, 97, of Allentown, died October 9, 2012, in Above and Beyond. He was the husband of Ruth R. (Nonnemaker) Arnold, with whom he celebrated 72 years of marriage on Nov. 25, 2011. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Robert and Elsie (McHenry) Arnold.

He was a backhoe operator for the former Lehigh Burial Service for 42 years, retiring in 1986.

He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II, earning a Purple Heart.

He was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church and played the banjo in various orchestras.

He is survived by his wife; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George D.
