Roughs put together wins
Catasauqua High School girls volleyball team has only won two matches all year when pressed to play five games.
But the girls topped Lehigh Valley Christian High School despite Alli Aversio's, a senior middle hitter, 11 kills at the Catasauqua High School Gym.
The Rough Riders shot the Cougars 25-6 in the first game of the afternoon on Tuesday.
In the second set, Aversio (4 kills) battled at the net with Catty's co-captain, senior Lauren Pluchinsky (3 kills). Pluchinsky excelled deep with three aces, two of those came in a row. Alissa Frederick had four aces in a row for the Roughies. Frederick played all five games then rushed off for the Catasauqua High School girls soccer senior night under the lights at Alumni Field. Frederick is also a starter for the Lady Booters. Freshman Kelly Sobrinski recorded an ace and senior middle hitter Samantha Schnabel made it 24-10.
A net ball by the Lady Cougars gave Catty High a 25-11 win.
Lehigh Valley Christian took the third contest 25-17. Catty trailed the whole game making 10 errors. After five errors Catty High coach Lindsay Arndt saw enough and called time out. Only Megan Murawski, Sam Schnabel and Frederick rocketed kill shots. Frederick and Sabrinna Oliver each registered an ace. Hope Golden made a block.
Merara DeLaCruz and Staci Robinson did most of the scoring in the Cougars victory.
Golden was keeping Catty alive and sneaked three dinks over the net.
But Catty let LVC back in the game with some bad serves. Coach Arndt asked Catty to work harder and Alissa Frederick threw down three aces in a row and a net ball helped for an 18-13 lead.
The Roughies won the last game 15-12.

The Rough Riders were waiting for the Lady Royals to come to the Rough House and then avenged an early season girls volleyball loss.
It took four sets to put away Pius X after the Royal and White won a first contest. The scores were 23-25, 25-15, 25-19, and 25-17.
Junior setter Hope Golden put up 46 assists to Samantha Schnabel, Lauren Pluchinsky, Alissa Frederick and Megan Murawski in the match.

Pluchinsky led the team in blocks with four, Schnabel registered three and Murawski made one.

Lindsay Arndt's charges learned from a loss at Dieruff on Sept. 24.
Catty made the adjustments and stuck to them to tame the Huskies to take a three set win 25-15, 25-14, 25-13 at the Rough House on Monday night.
Lauren Pluchinsky and Samantha Schnabel took care of things up front for the Brown and White.
Pluchinsky is showing why she can pursue volleyball as a sport in college. She knows when to come up to the net and make the big swing, coming up with nine kills, or, when to let a teammate have the glory. Aces were wild as she fired seven balls on serves, biting the Huskies.
Sam Schnabel is steady up front on blocks getting two and can make the big spike (3 kills) or just a little dink if she has to. The senior served up an ace.
Megan Murawski did it all over the court for Catty, firing off five kills, registering three aces and one block.
