Richard M. Kleintop

Richard M. Kleintop, 87, of Brooksville, Fla., formerly of Allentown, died Oct. 2, 2012, in Vidant Service League Inpatient Hospice, Greenville, N.C.

He was the husband of Iris W. (Kirkland) Kleintop and the late Emily R. (Snyder) Kleintop and Ruth E. (Pape) Kleintop.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

A 1949 graduate of East Stroudsburg University, from which he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education, he was a general science teacher for seventh and eighth grades in the South Mountain Junior High School in the Allentown School District for 25 years before retiring in 1984. Prior to that, he taught in the Pennsbury School District, Langhorne, for two years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, Fla.

An avid skier, he served as an instructor and director of the ski school at Big Boulder and was on the ski patrol.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by stepdaughters Gretchen Marshall of Jackson, Mich., Janis Anthes of New Durham, N.H, Dr. Alice Mills of Lexington, Ky.; three step-grandchildren; nieces Elizabeth Martin, Jennifer Bordiere and Phyllis Tunis; and nephews Greg and Roger Smith.
