Dogs strut their stuff at Doggie Day

Full of energy and excitement, many dogs barked and sniffed throughout the grounds of Whitehall Parkway during the Whitehall Doggie Day and Pet Parade Saturday, Sept. 29.

The event, sponsored by Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce, allowed residents to bring their dogs to the park to participate in different events.

Proceeds from the event will benefit The Animal Health and Welfare Center, Peaceable Kingdom and Lehigh Valley CART.

Vendors' booths filled the park and dogs with their owners perused the animal-friendly marketplace.

Doggie Day included a fashion parade, where dogs dressed in their best, strutted the red carpet and participated in a pet trick contest and a bow-wow wedding.

A Whitehall Police K-9 unit attended the event to answer questions about how the K-9 unit works and the training of the dogs.

Christine Chiu, of No Worries Pets, worked to organize the event.

"I wanted to help out," she said. "My goal is to raise money while having a fun day out with our dogs."

The Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce worked with Chiu to put together the event.

"We were excited for this event," said Laura Long, a chamber executive. "It's so much fun to see the dogs having fun with their owners."

Although this is the first time the parkway held the event, Long hopes that it will become an annual one.
