UPPER MILFORD SUPERVISORS Budget deliberations begin
Upper Milford Township supervisors have scheduled a budget workshop meeting for 6 p.m. prior to their next regular meeting Oct. 18, to begin working on the 2013 budget.
Board members got their first look at township Manager Daniel DeLong's proposed budget at their Oct. 4 meeting, but DeLong said the proposal is just a first draft and it is too early to talk about numbers. He said only his proposal is slightly higher than this year's budget.
"It's a starting point," DeLong said.
The heavy rains Oct. 2 caused significant flooding problems in the township, supervisors reported. Most of the flooding was pretty well cleaned up by Oct. 4, Supervisor Robert Sentner said.
Supervisors Chairman Daniel Mohr said there were some complaints about flooding in the St. Peter's Road area and there was also some major flooding around Leiberts Creek.
An area along Main Road West on private property was also a problem, Supervisor George DeVault said.
Also at last week's brief meeting, supervisors authorized township staff to sell a four-wheel drive truck, but to keep a medium duty dump truck to use exclusively to apply brine in bad weather.
DeLong said the four-wheel drive truck is 24 years old, but the township could probably get top value for it by selling it now.
However, an earlier bid received for the dump truck was so low it would be preferable to keep it, since it is still in good working order, he said.
Supervisors also received resignations from two members of township boards and agreed to advertise for replacements.
Sarah Whitney is resigning from the Open Space Committee and Michael Mullen is resigning from the Zoning Hearing Board.
Supervisors thanked them both for their service.
Mohr reminded the board the Vera Cruz Halloween parade will be held Oct. 17, and there's a possibility it will be televised this year. He called for more volunteers to help with the event.
