Kyle Cope, a recent graduate of Emmaus High School, had an angel at his side earlier this year.
On Feb. 27, Cope was involved in a very serious car accident, one that left him pinned inside the vehicle.
Lower Macungie Fire Department Chief Dave Nosal told the story of the rescue at the commissioners meeting Oct. 4. Lower Macungie Paramedics and Faust Towing were also present as they were an integral part of the story.
Nosal, on the scene of the accident, said Cope was in excruciating pain and being freed from the wreckage became a life-saving event. Both legs were severely fractured with severe blood loss.
The Lehigh Valley Hospital Trauma team was prepared to perform emergency surgery, one that would sever both legs, to free Cope from the car.
In one last effort, Faust Towing pulled on the car, freeing four inches of space to safely remove Cope.
Cope, his mother Melinda and father David attended the commissioners meeting grateful for the assistance at the accident scene.
David Cope, vice president and partner of GC Electric, made a proposal to redo the wiring of the Wescosville fire station, the Macungie Ambulance Corps and Faust Towing, making for better lighting as a gesture of gratitude. The project was completed by Kyle Cope.
A plaque was presented by Nosal to the Cope family, thanking them for their contribution of the lighting.
Commissioner Ron Eichenberg expressed his thanks for this action and was very glad Cope survived the accident.
