Huff's Church Youth Group is now accepting orders for homemade apple dumplings. Place orders by Oct. 27. Pickup is scheduled noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 3. To order, call Minerva at 215-679-2668.

The Verizon Telecom Pioneers will hold their monthly meeting and lunch 11:30 a.m. at Old Country Buffet, Whitehall. Please bring a nonperishable item for the food bank.

Oct. 11

Alburtis Lockridge Historical Society will hold their monthly meeting 7 p.m. at the ALHS headquarters, 407 Franklin St., Alburtis. The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served.

The Emmaus Arts Commission will host their seventh annual "Student Horror Film Festival Kick-Off" 6 p.m. at Emmaus High School. Student filmmakers are invited to this free introduction to filmmaking. Tips and techniques will be given as well as the theme and genre for the festival. The film festival will be held Oct. 28.

Oct. 12

St. Ann's Woman's Club 'Baskets and Bags Bingo' 7:30 p.m. in the school gym. There is a charge which includes admission, 25 games, door prizes, hot dog, chips and a drink. Raffle tickets will be sold for the Longaberger hamper and the 50/50 raffle. No one will be admitted without a ticket; must be 16 or older to attend. Oct. 13

The Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, 3461 South Cedar Crest Blvd., Emmaus, will hold its annual blessing of the animals 3 p.m. Oct. 13. The rain date will be 3 p.m. Oct. 20.

The Lower Macungie Historical Society will host an evening of ghost stories 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lower Macungie Township Log House in Wescosville Park on Hamilton Boulevard. Master Storyteller Charles Kiernan will read family friendly stories for the first 40 minutes. After an intermission, the stories will get scarier. Refreshments will be provided.

Alburtis Lockridge Historical Society Museum, 407 Franklin St., Alburtis, will be open to the public 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors will be able to see vintage 1906 photographs of Alburtis along with other displays. Light refreshments will be served.

Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 9th and Emaus Ave., Allentown, will host an indoor yard sale 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Oct. 14

Citizens' Fire Co. #2, 1017-21 Pennsylvania Ave., Emmaus, will host basket bingo with filled baskets. Doors open 1 p.m. and bingo starts 2 p.m. There will be 20 games with food available to purchase, specials, and a raffle. Only 100 tickets are available. Oct. 17

The 2012 Vera Cruz Halloween Parade will start and end at Mystic Chain Park with staging beginning 6 p.m. The parade route is 1.5 miles and runs from Main Road East and West to Vera Cruz Road. The parade dates back to 1923 and promises to be bigger and better than ever with the help of the Emmaus Marching Band. Cash prizes will be awarded to individual marchers, groups and float entries. The Emmaus Historical Society will host "Bethlehem Steel: An Inside View" 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Emmaus. Ann Bartholomew and Donald Young, coauthors of the first book showing photos taken inside the plant back to the 1890s, will present the program.
