'Bodies Revealed' comes to the Lehigh Valley
The Da Vinci Science Center's new exhibit "Bodies Revealed" shows complexities of the human body Leonardo himself could only imagine.
The tour through the various systems of the human anatomy uses real anatomical specimens to display unabated functionality in an educational and tasteful way.
The delicate displays look and feel like plastic but offer a true view into the human body through polymer injection, a process removing all of the water from an organ or system while replacing it with a polymer, and preserving it indefinitely.
Da Vinci's new exhibit will be on display through Feb. 10, 2013 and is part of their effort to "bring science to life and bring lives to science."
This is the first time the traveling expedition has had a chance to visit the Lehigh Valley. It has attracted more than 15 million visitors worldwide and provides an up-close look inside the skeletal, muscular, reproductive, respiratory, circulatory and other systems of the human body.
The Da Vinci Science Center and Saint Luke's University Health Network are presenting "Bodies Revealed" as part of their 12-month Year of the Human Body project attempting to foster the next generation of medical professionals while inspiring visitors to gain a greater understanding of their own inner workings in the process.
The exhibit has two audio tours accompanying the expedition with one specifically designed for children and another for adults.
"Bodies Revealed" is an educational experience for people of all ages and brings a message promoting a health conscious mentality while educating about anatomy and science.
"You are always responsible for your own health," Bodies Revealed Medical Director Dr. Roy Glover said. "Nobody is going to take better care of you than you."
Glover said this tour can be a great learning tool for families because it opens discussion on topics about the body which can be difficult for parents to initiate.
"Bodies Revealed" will be open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday with the exception of major holidays.
The Da Vinci Science Center has a two-story exhibit floor with more than 100 standard exhibits featuring nanotechnology, the Earth and its living things, matter, chemistry, light and electricity, forces and machines, Leonardo's work and more.
