Nazareth up next
The Parkland football team is on a roll. They have found their way with the new spread offense and have found life on defense. The Trojans currently have won their last three games by an average margin of 28 points, and in doing so, are climbing up the ladder of the Lehigh Valley Conference standings after losing their first two games.
The offense broke out in a 52-23 win over rival Whitehall last Friday night. Tim Baranek was the anchor again, having his hand in four touchdowns (two rushing and two passing). The three-headed monster behind him in the back field, Jarel Elder, Eli Remond and Kareem Williams rushed for a touchdown each, and Jarey Elder was on the end of a Baranek throw for a score. Everyone on offense contributed to bring home the Joe Gerencser Memorial trophy.
They will need to do more of the same, in what should be another high scoring affair against Nazareth (4-1) this Friday night. The Blue Eagles have averaged 37 points their last three games.
That will also make life difficult for the Trojans defense. But if they are to build off the momentum of last week's win, head coach Jim Morgans should like his chances.
Nobody seems to get by Naze Haddad and Zach Gurinowich lately. And the two Elder brothers, along with Redman, have shut down some potent receivers the last two weeks.
Nazareth brings a high quality quarterback in Parish Simmons. His favorite targets, running back Jordan Gray and wideout Anthony Gaetaniello, figure to put points up on the board.
Parkland will need to keep its emotions high, and not let up after the Whitehall win. A win over the Blue Eagles and the Trojans can move full speed ahead toward clinching a spot in the District 11 playoffs and stay in the hunt for an LVC championship.
