The Allentown CROP Hunger Walk, sponsored by the Lehigh County Conference of Churches, is scheduled for Oct. 14 at St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, at the corner of Ott and Walnut sts., Allentown.
Registration begins at 1 p.m. with a brief opening ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
There will be two routes: the 6-mile walk through Allentown with three rest stops along the way and the Golden Mile walk for Golden Agers, families with children or dogs, or anyone wanting a leisurely pace.
Walkers raising more than $125 will receive T-shirts, and those who raise the most funds this year will receive special awards donated by area banks.
Twenty-five percent of the funds raised by the CROP Walk returns to the Lehigh Valley to support the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank and the Lehigh County Conference of Churches Soup Kitchen.
The remaining 75 percent will be used by Church World Service for disaster relief and development assistance, helping poor families with obtain clean drinking water, seeds, tools and irrigation.
Registration forms and pledge packages are available at First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, Cedar Crest Boulevard and Tilghman Street or at the offices of the Conference of Churches, 534 Chew St., Allentown.
