Mary A. Whitehead, 91, of Macungie, formerly of South Allentown, died September 22, 2012, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law Claudia and Frank S. Samer Jr. She was the wife of the late Claude F. "Pep" Whitehead who died in 2004. Born in Summit Hill, she was the daughter of the late Renorth and Eva P. (Brennan) Piaia.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Allentown.

She was a graduate of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown, for 35 years prior to retiring in 1982. At Sacred Heart she was the director of admissions for eight years, a clinical instructor at the school of nursing for 20 years and as the employee health nurse for seven years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing Alumni Association and was a member of St. Andrew's Young at Heart Sr. Citizens in North Catasauqua.

She is survived by her daughter, Claudia; son, Robert and his spouse, Meegan in St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Anthony, Claudine and Jennifer; great-grandchildren, Ian, Sebastian, Anthony, Aidan, Paige, Alex, Nathan and a baby girl to come.

Services and interment are private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the O'Donnell Funeral Home, Allentown.
