Boys fall to Bombers

The Rough Riders thought they had a shot at a victory against Palmerton, which was fired up to get a win for their coach and former Roughie player Ryan Sharkazy.

Sharkazy came back to his alma mater for the first time and guided the Blue Bombers to a 6-2 Colonial League victory.

Sharkazy is a first-year head coach and Palmerton is now 3-6.

Blue Bomber Austin Shupp had a hat trick and an assist. Gabe Scott scored a goal and registered two assists. Jonathan Schwartz and Dylan Furry scored the fifth and sixth Palmerton goals. Spencer Shigo was credited with the assists.

Catty's future is bright as Roughie goals were scored by freshman Nick Rossnagle and junior Lester Estrada. Fellow junior Ethan Hill pitched in with an assist.

Sophomore Gunnar Pattison had an incredible 19 saves. Rich Roselli, his counterpart, made eight saves.

The Rough Riders fell to 0-11.

The Roughs fell to Jim Thorpe 12-1.

Two starters were out for Jim Thorpe and Joe Harakal, the football kicker, go injured the night before in Catty's fourth win of the season.

The Roughies were coming off a great game on the Thomas Field pitch against Notre Dame.

First-year Head Coach Mike Baclawski said, "[Notre Dame game] was the best of the year."

Ernesto Lora scored the one goal for Catty in the loss to Notre Dame and Ethan Hill had the assist.

Catty's boys booters lost 7-1 at Moravian Academy last Wednesday. The Lions scored five goals in the first half.

The Roughies got a goal in the second half as a Lion inadvertently put the ball in the Catasauqua High School goal.

Moravian's Justin Manhoff had a hat trick. Two of his goals came in the second half.

Girls

The Catty girls sit at 0-9 on the season and are coming off loses to Notre Dame Green Pond (7-0) and Moravian Academy (6-0).

Still, the Lady Roughies are relentless in their attack. So many times this season they have made long runs to the goal that have turned up empty. They've just missed in front of the goal mouth several ways, just missing on headers and simply unlucky on balls at times.

"Our girls are fighting in every game and some of our underclassmen are getting a lot of varsity experience," said head coach Trajano Bastidas. "Also, despite the tough season thus far, we still have a good attitude and we are determined to challenge every team. Our goal is to continually improve and be better players and a better team after every practice and after every game."

But early in the game against the Olympians, Baclawski said the team lacked excitement and needed to pressure cover.

The very fast Olympians got the ball and dribbled right down the field to score the first goal, and Anthony Pavia scored on a penalty kick with 35:26 to play. Exactly a minute later senior midfielder Mike Principe scored unassisted. At 32:31 Steven Principe, Mike's younger brother, scored after a pass by forward Benny Mazzella to make it 3-0.

Catty had at least four touches by players then Ernesto Lora got off a shot with 10 minutes left to play in the first half.

Catty's Chris Sobrinski turned the ball upfield for an attack but Jim Thorpe's Dalton Becker scored unassisted at 16:26. At 12:07 Anthony Pavia scored his second goal of the morning and Benny Mazzella, a senio got his second assist to make it 5-0.

Jim Thorpe scored on a give and go. Corey Ligenza assisted on the goal to Steven Principe for a 6-0 lead at 6:15

The Roughies made a run with 2:42 to play Rossnagle to junior Martin Nalbandian but 27 seconds later Ligenza scored the seventh goal of the second half.

Corey Ligenza's goal gave Jim Thorpe a nine goal lead with 27 minutes to play. Jim Thorpe head coach put some of his junior varsity squad in with 23 minutes left. Matt Trust was inserted in goal for CHS.

At 19:56 Dalton Becker chaffeured Mike Principe to the net. Two minutes later Ligenza got his fourth goal of the day two in each half. Nick Montanaro made the pass for the 12th goal.

The Olympians took 26 shots. CHS starting goalie Pattison made five saves. Matt Trust.

Catty fired 13 shots and Justin Kaminski came up with seven saves.
