Russell W. Bortz, 88, of Macungie, died Sept. 11, 2012, in Lehigh Valley Hospital.

He was the husband of Annetta A. (Stephen) Bortz and the late Evelyn E. "Betty" (Sittler) Bortz, who died in 2001.

Born in Alburtis, he was a son of the late George C. and Mary E. (Heller) Bortz.

He was employed at Plant 5C of Mack Trucks Inc. for 44 years.

He was a member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church.

An Army veteran of World War II, he was a charter member of Robert M. Fegely VFW Post 8282, he held memberships in Emmaus Mercantile Club, ARC, Macungie Fire Company, and Howard L. Peter American Legion Post 576.

He enjoyed golfing, spectator sports and gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Donald R. and his wife, Barbara (Strohl) Bortz, of Fogelsville; grandchildren Michael Bortz and his wife, Andrea, and Wendy, wife of Jeffrey Rice; three great-grandchildren; stepson, Gary Wetherhold; and son-in-law, David Long.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Jane E. Long, and by three brothers and two sisters.
