LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Letter to The Editor

To the Editor:

Someone, somewhere in the Lehigh Valley just heard those three life-changing words, "you have cancer."

This news can be devastating.

One of the greatest challenges for patients isn't the lack of treatment. It's lack of transportation.

Your American Cancer Society is there to help lift the burden through its Road to Recovery program, which provides trained volunteers who give cancer patients free rides to and from cancer treatments.

Cancer is hard and there are many obstacles that a person faces during the journey, but the cancer society wants to be sure that lack of transportation is not one of them. The local need is great and is growing.

In July, we received our highest number of requests – 204. We were unable to fulfill 37 of these requests, which is equal to 74 rides.

Imagine that!

We need many, many drivers to help fill this ever-increasing demand.

If you have some free time and want to make a real difference in someone's life, please consider driving for Road to Recovery.

For information on how to volunteer, please contact the Lehigh Valley Unit of your American Cancer Society at 610-921-2329.

The Road to Recovery starts with you.
