John A. Johnson Jr.
John A. Johnson Jr., 89, of Orefield, died Sept. 11, 2012, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He and his wife, Louise E. (Dalrymple) Johnson, celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last March.
Born in East Northport, N.Y., he was a son of the late John A. Johnson Sr. and Wilhelmina (Gartelman) Johnson.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II .
He owned and operated Johnson Farms, a family business in Orefield, and worked as a farmer throughout his lifetime.
He was a past president of the Upper Lehigh Lions Club and won the Melvin Jones Award in June 2005, member of VFW Post 8344, Schnecksville, and served on the Board of Directors of the Boys Club in Allentown in 1987.
A member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs he served as a deacon and elder there for many years.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived sons John A. Ill and his wife Debra Ann (Cheresnowski) of Athens, Bradford County, Jeffrey F., and his wife, Julie Ann (Hrycko), of Orefield; brother Arthur W. and his wife Marian of Orefield; grandchildren John A. Johnson IV, Jennifer Lee, Jaclyn Ann; great-grandchildren, John A. Johnson V, Oscar Samual, Nathan, Abigail; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Phillip, and a sister, Marion.
Services will be private, at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
