The Whitehall-Coplay School Board approved new cyber/privacy protection insurance at its Sept. 10 board meeting. Eight members voted in support of the policy.

The board had discussed the policy during its committee meeting held Aug. 28. The policy will protect the school from the threat of potential hackers, cases of copyright or trademark infringement, invasion of privacy, libel, slander and plagiarism.

In other business, Tyler George, a Whitehall High School student council representative, spoke to the board concerning student council goals in the upcoming year.

"The student council has high hopes for this school year," George said. The theme for this year is "On The Right Track."

"Our goal is to let the students understand that we are all on the same track," he said.

The school board also approved the appointments of Matthew Ziegenfuss and Lauren DeSieno. Ziegenfuss will serve as the assistant principal at the high school and DeSieno will serve as the librarian at the high school.

Superintendent John Corby reflected on the opening week of school.

"We were ready to open and opened up well," he said. "I'd like to thank everyone who worked to make this possible. The campus looks incredible."
