Lehigh County Commissioner Daniel McCarthy withdrew a bill he sponsored to put forth funding from the community revitalization grant program at the Sept. 12 commissioners meeting.

The bill would have granted the Borough of Emmaus and Whitehall Township $15,000 each to establish a revolving loan program for new businesses.

Debate was sparked over the bill at the Aug. 22 commissioners meeting where Commissioner Scott Ott questioned whether or not it was appropriate to use countywide funds to bankroll businesses in select boroughs. No mention was made if the bill would be brought back for consideration at a later date.

The commissioners did approve a measure to enhance the accuracy of locating 911 callers using wireless devices.

Commissioner Lisa Scheller said there is a "fair amount of inaccuracy when they [911 callers] come in through cell phones or other wireless devices."

The amendment to the capital plan made by the commissioners will allow the county to deploy a test phase of the locating system and evaluate its effectiveness.

In a lighter moment during the meeting, Commissioner Chair Brad Osborne was joined unanimously by the board of commissioners to honor two achievements made in the Lehigh Valley the first being the 100th anniversary of Saint Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Allentown; the second to honor Lehigh Valley resident Michael T. Rooney on achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.
