Tuesday night's Coplay Borough Council meeting was over and done in 20 minutes.

Without comment or discussion, council voted 4-1 to appoint Charles Sodl to the council seat vacated in August by Marvin Mann.

Voting in favor of the appointment were Councilmen Joseph Groller, Lou Bodish, Michael Mazur and Dave Royer. Councilman Bill Leiner Jr. opposed.

Councilman Matt Recker did not attend the meeting. Bodish said during roll call that Recker was on his way but stuck in traffic.

Borough Secretary Sandra Gyecsek read aloud the letters of interest submitted by five candidates. In addition to Sodl were Sophie Kesselring, Jocelyn Wedge, Beverly Miller and Karl Korsak.

Also packed into the first 15 minutes of the meeting were several reports and votes on 11 separate agenda items. Each motion was made, seconded and approved without comment or discussion.

After those votes were taken, Bodish opened the floor to nominations, allowing a single councilman to make a motion to nominate that need not be seconded.

Mazur nominated Sodl.

Leiner nominated Kesselring.

No one else was nominated. Bodish closed nominations and called for a motion, made by Mazur and seconded by Royer.

Following the vote, council adjourned. After several minutes, Mayor Joseph Bundra administered the oath of office to Sodl.

At last week's workshop meeting, councilman Bill Leiner Jr. and former councilwoman Beverly Miller predicted council would appoint Sodl.

"The women of Coplay need to examine this council and consider change in May 2013," Leiner said after the meeting.

He confirmed later he was referring to the fact that all members of the current council are men.
