South Parkand teams have strong week

The SPYA 125s rebounded from a tough opening day loss in a big way by blanking the Hokey Eagles 45-0 in a SYFL matchup on Saturday.

The Trojans (1-1) rushed for over 300 yards on the day. Dominic Nelson scored on a 80-yard run on the second play of the game as well as scoring on a 65-yard run on the Trojans second possession. Nelson ended the game with 167 yards rushing, five sacks and 10 tackles.

Nate Yandle led the way for Trojans special teams with two blocked punt scoop-and-scores and an extra point kick. Dante Strella rushed for 180 yards and one score. He also had a blocked punt. Dylan Rahm scored on a 20-yard run. Norris Bullock scored on a 65-yard run.

Emmaus 19,

So. Parkland 13

South Parkland hung in tough, but fell to the Lil' Hornets 19-13.

Harper Puckett hit Conner Bernecker on a 30-yard touchdown strike. Puckett ended the contest going 5-for-13 passing for 80 yards and a score.

Jake Johnson had a 60-yard touchdown run and Sebastian Suriel added an interception.

Mountainville 27,

So. Parkland B 19

South Parkland exploded on its first offensive play with a 65-yard touchdown by Jason Nuel, but couldn't hold on in a 27-19 defeat.

Nuel answered a Mountainville score with another touchdown run, but the Trojans trailed 14-13 at the half.

Mountainville scored first in the second half, only to be answered again by another touchdown from Nuel, who totaled 172 rushing yards for the game. Mountainville scored again in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Sean Cardinale (eight tackles), Kohde O'Brien (seven tackles) and Mo Shaw (seven tackles) were instrumental to the Parkland defense.

Bethlehem Saints 20,

So. Parkland 0

In the season opening game on September 2, South Parkland was shut out by the Saints, 20-0.

Johnny Ochs had a 35-yard interception for the Trojans.

For three quarters Jason Nuel (nine tackles), Liam Gill, Ethan Warren, Jacob Torres (four tackles each) and Ryan Mcmenamy helped to hold the opposition to one touchdown, which was scored in the second quarter.

The Saints scored a pair touchdowns in the fourth quarter to end the game.

The SPYA 110-pound team improved to 2-0 on the season with an impressive 20-0 victory over the visiting Hokey Golden Eagles.

The Trojan defense was again dominant as it recorded its second straight shutout, holding the Golden Eagles to negative 15 yards of total offense. Trent Perkins again led the Trojan defenders with 11 tackles. Richard Kerrick recorded six tackles, while Ryan Zolotsky and JT Siggins added five tackles each.

Evan Kopenhaver recovered a first quarter fumble to set up the Trojans first touchdown of the game. The Trojans first touchdown was scored by Vincent Gerbasio on a one-yard run. The point after was converted on a three-yard pass from Gerbasio to Aaron Watson.

The Trojans struck again early in the second quarter with a 41-yard touchdown pass from Gerbasio to Bryan Bertsch. George Hlavac caught the three-yard point after pass from Gerbasio.

The Trojans put the game away in the fourth quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Tanner Lewis. The Lewis touchdown capped a 17-play, 79-yard drive by the Trojan offense that ate up over 12 minutes on the clock.

Harper Puckett led the Trojans with 45 yards rushing. Devin Yeomans added 24 yards rushing. Gerbasio led the Trojans through the air completing 6-of-9 passes for 78 yards. Lewis was 3-for-5 for 20 yards. Bertsch led the Trojan receivers with 41 yards, while Jack Perkins added four receptions for 32 yards.

So. Parkland A 26,

Lower Mac 0

In a non-league game, the SPYA 110s team rolled to a 26-0 victory over the Lower Macungie Mustangs. Nick Johnston led the way for the Trojans with two long scoring runs on his first two carries of the game.

Johnston's first touchdown covered 59 yards. Ryan Hoffman kicked through the two-point conversion.

On the Trojans next possession, Johnston scampered 26 yards for his second touchdown. Tanner Lewis added an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. JT Siggins closed out the scoring for the Trojans with a 45-yard touchdown run.

Johnston led the Trojan ground attack with 93 yards, while Asher Reede rushed for 36 yards. Ryan Zolotsky had three receptions for 21 yards.

Defensively, the Trojans dominated Lower Macungie, holding the Mustangs to 10 yards of total offense. Johnston led the Trojans with five tackles and two fumble recoveries. Richard Kerrick and Reede each added four tackles. Mason Holaska returned an interception 15 yards to set up a Trojan touchdown.

The 95 pound Trojans won a hard fought game against Hokey.

Offensively, the Trojans moved the ball with long runs by Cade Clancy, Brett Cipolla and Jordan Lewis. Tommy Salako provided the Trojans two scores, one on a punt return and the second on a 30-yard carry. Jordan Lewis added to the score with a two-point kick.

Defensively, the Trojans shut down Hokey's hard running efforts and did not allow a first down. Turnovers aided the effort. Salako recovered a fumbled punt and Jordan Lewis had an interception.
