Parkland looks for first win against Kids

Coming off of a 35-28 loss to Lehigh Valley Conference rival Easton last Friday night at home, the Parkland Trojans football team will travel to Northampton on Friday night and look to get into the win column to break a two-game losing streak.

Head coach Jim Morgans said after last Friday night's game that a win will ease some of the tension that is going on at the moment.

It will have to begin on the defensive side of the ball. Parkland has given up 72 points over the course of the young season. Granted, it has been against two top teams on the schedule in Delaware Valley and Easton.

Offensively, although it was a sluggish start to the game, Parkland has racked up 63 total points in their first two games.

Tim Baranek has led the way as a dual-threat quarterback, leading the team in rushing last week and throwing for two touchdowns. He amassed three total scores on the night. Jarel Elder, held in check against Easton, along with Eli Redmond and Kareem Williams make up a scary three-headed monster in the backfield that can seemingly break loose at any point in a ball game.

Northampton (1-1) defeated Stroudsburg Week 1, and is coming off of a 63-28 beat down at the hands of Nazareth last weekend.

The Trojans defense will have to adjust from facing two prominent running backs in Shane Simpson and Austin Brown of Easton, to now dealing with a high caliber quarterback from Northampton.

Nick Cook fired three touchdown passes in the Konkrete Kids loss last Friday night, and he has six total touchdowns in the first two games. Wide receiver Kyle George has been his favorite target, catching a 64-yard touchdown grab last week, and two passes over 65 yards in their first game.

If Parkland wants to get to where everyone believes they can, and Morgans believes his team is a district qualifier, it has to begin with a win Friday night at Northampton High School.
