SPYA 110s win a thriller against Bethlehem Steelers
South Parkland's youth teams began their Suburban Youth Football League campaign with wins over the Bethlehem Steelers at the 110- and 80-pound levels.

The Bethlehem Steelers dominated South Parkland in their season-opening SYFL matchup on Saturday. Poor tackling and mistakes doomed the Trojans from the start. The Steelers struck first on a 60-yard touchdown run on the third play of the game.
The Trojans stayed in the game with a 65-yard run by Dante Strella down to the Steelers 15. But after Strella's long run, two missed opportunities stalled the drive.
The Trojans lone touchdown came when Jake Yannes found Strella on a wheel route for a 55-yard scoring strike.

South Parkland 7, Bethlehem Steelers 0
The SPYA 110lb team opened its season with an exciting 7-0 last-minute victory over the Bethlehem Steelers.
The Trojan defense dominated Bethlehem the entire game, holding the Steelers to 23 total yards on the afternoon in the shutout. Trent Perkins led the way with nine tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. JT Siggins and Jack Perkins added five tackles apiece. Mason Holaska, Richard Kerrick and Aaron Watson also recovered fumbles for the Trojans, while Devin Yeomans made a huge sack on the Steelers' final drive of the game.
Unable to score for the first three quarters, Watson recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter to give the offense one final chance. On the game-winning drive, Bryan Bertsch converted a huge third and 14 by hauling in a 17-yard pass from Harper Puckett. Two plays later, with less than two minutes remaining in the game, Vincent Gerbasio scampered 13 yards for the game-winning touchdown behind key blocks from Kerrick and Jered Fenstermaker. Gerbasio found Watson on a three-yard pass for the extra point.
Offensively, the Trojans did most of their damage through the air. Gerbasio was 6-of-9 passing for 18 yards, while Puckett was 2-of-2 passing for 47 yards. George Hlavac led the Trojans with 30 yards receiving.

The Trojans got off to a winning start on the road against the Bethlehem Steelers.
In the second quarter, solid runs by Jesse Ruisch and Will Kerrick got South Parkland inside the 10-yard line. South Parkland scored on an eight-yard pass from quarterback Jackson Reed to Aidan Hendricks. And the score stayed at 6-0 heading into halftime.
Late in the game, Hendricks made a big defensive play, stripping the ball and running half the field to score his second touchdown of the day.
A solid Trojans defense was led by Jack Wieder, Jesse Ruisch, and Isaiah Green.
