Charles H. Shafer, 102, formerly of Allentown, died August 21, 2012, in Paoli Hospital. He was the husband of the late Thalia M. (Marcks) Shafer. Born in Nazareth, he was the son of the late Charles W.K. and Laura H. (Huth) Shafer.

He was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in forestry. He worked for the National Park Service as a forester and later as an agent for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. from 1948 until retiring in 1975. He was a senior instructor for Life underwriter training.

He was a very active member of Grace Lutheran Church, Allentown, having served as secretary of the Sunday school, church council, and a trustee from 1974 to 1981.

He is survived by a daughter, Thalia S. and her husband Donald Evons of West Chester; grandchildren, Gary Roth, Randy Roth, Tammy Hiller, Jeffrey Evons, and Vicki Evons Crosby; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by a daughter, Beverly Ann Roth Hahn.
