Lester L. Bowen, 93, longtime resident of Fifth Street, Fullerton, died peacefully Aug. 24, 2012, in Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton.
Born in Catasauqua, he was a son of the late Robert and Mabel (Troxell) Bowen.
He and his wife, Dora Jean (Williams) Bowen, were married 54 years at the time of her death on Jan. 28, 2002.
He served in the administration with the Pennsylvania National Guard 213th Area Support Group, 15th and Allen streets, Allentown for more than 30 years before retiring in 1979.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army attaining the rank of master sergeant and chief warrant officer during World War II.
A life member of the Fullerton Fire Company No. 1, he enjoyed bowling at the Coplay Saengerbund and the Charotin Fire Company, Catasauqua.
He was a proud member of the 1937 undefeated Catasauqua football team.
His survivors include a daughter Elyse Ogden and her husband Bill; sons Les and wife, Judy, Douglas and wife, Sally, Donald and wife, Kathleen, Barry and wife, Sandy, Alan and wife, Pam, and David; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brothers Sterling "Duffy" and wife Gladys, and Curtis.
He was predeceased by brothers William, Willard and Sherwood.
Services will be 11 a.m. Aug. 31, in Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall. Viewing begins 9:30 am.
Interment with military honors by Fullerton American Legion Post 367 will follow in Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown.
