Summer Harmony to sing 'Allentown'

The Summer Harmony concert, 7:30 p.m. Aug. 24, Parkland High School Auditorium, 2700 N. Cedar Crest Boulevard, Allentown, will feature The Allentown Band performing "We Love Allentown," written by Robert Pearce, a 90-year-old Emmaus resident and retired Allen Organ employee, and his daughter, Joanne, a pianist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Allentown Band member Tom Heinze rewrote the arrangement for band and men's chorus. The song, which was written 30 years ago in response to Billy Joel's "Allentown" song, is to be performed to commemorate Allentown's 250th anniversary.

Pearce and his daughter may attend the concert, which is to include a tribute to the late Marvin Hamlisch, as well as popular and patriotic music.

Tickets are expected to be available at the door.
