Northampton column: Pool closes Aug. 18
The Northampton Borough Municipal Pool will close for the season this Saturday, Aug. 18.

The Northampton Area Public Library will host a "Hunger Games and Beyond" trivia tournament Wednesday, Aug. 22, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
The tournament is open to 11- to 18-year-olds. Teams of two will compete, so bring a partner or let the library organizers pair you up.
Refreshments will be served, and prizes will be awarded. Space is limited, so call the library at 610-262-7537 to register.
This program is presented by the NAPL Board of Advisory Teens.
The library also will present an exclusive movie screening 1 p.m. Aug. 21. Under the movie licensing agreement, the library is not permitted to list the title here. Call 610-262-7537 or come in to ask and register.

A rubber-stamping and card-making class is set for Tuesday, Aug. 28, 9:30-11 a.m., at the library. There is a fee for materials, and you will create cards with envelopes. Seating is limited. Call 610-262-7537.

Assumption BVM Church will hold its annual picnic Sunday, Sept. 9, at Egypt Memorial Park.
The event begins with a Mass in the pavilion at 11 a.m.
Entertainment will be provided by the Emil Schanta Band beginning at 3 p.m.
Games, food and plenty of other activities will continue until 7 p.m.

The Hampton Rookies bowling league, which meets Tuesday mornings at Hampton Lanes, is going coed.
New members are now being accepted for the season, which begins Sept. 4.

The deadline is today, Thursday, Aug. 16, to purchase tickets for the Friends of the Northampton Area Public Library chartered bus trip to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia.
The bus will depart Sept. 21 at 8 a.m. from the Northampton Recreation Center, 1 Lerchenmiller Drive, and will arrive back at approximately 6 p.m. The cost includes transportation and admission to both the Franklin Institute and the exhibit.
Stop by the library, 1615 Laubach Ave., to reserve your seat. This trip is open to everyone, not just library patrons.
Proceeds from the bus trip will be used to fund library projects.

Holy Trinity Nursery School, 1235 Main St., is now registering for the 2012-13 school year.
The 2-year-old playgroup class meets Mondays and Wednesdays, 9:30-11 a.m. Class size is limited to 12 children who do not need to be toilet trained.
The 3-year-old class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9-11:30 a.m. and the 4-year-old class meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 12:15-2:45 p.m. Only 16 children who are toilet trained can sign up for each class.
Children must turn the appropriate age for the class by Sept. 1. An open house is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27, for students already enrolled in classes for September.
