The "crime chicken" led the march against crime the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 7, to kick off Coplay's National Night Out.

After the march, residents of Coplay gathered at the American Club Pavilion to take a collective stand against crime.

According to Coplay Town Watch Vice President Bill Leiner Jr., the event makes "sure neighborhoods are safe and fighting back."

Local law enforcement and government officials commented on the importance of National Night Out.

"This event gives a chance for people to get together," said Coplay Mayor Joseph Bundra. "I'm for anything that will help the community."

Other officials who made an appearance at the event include Lehigh County Sherriff Ron Rossi and Coplay Police Chief Vincent Genovese.

"I like seeing the different families from grandmother to granddaughter and training the little ones that police are friendly," said Leiner.

The event included vendors that provided information on drug prevention and criminal penalties. The event also included a moon bounce, a clown, and other games for children. D.H. Productions provided music, leading some residents in attendance to dance.

Free hot dogs, soda, watermelon slices and chips were provided to those in attendance.

A free raffle awarded bicycles, tickets to the Philadelphia Zoo and a night out to dinner.

The event closed with a landing by the MedEvac.
