William E. Garber, 59, of Zionsville, died August 8, 2012, in Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown. Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary (Frederick) Garber.

A graduate of Drexel University with a degree in chemical engineering, he was employed by Air Products & Chemicals, working 35 years at the Trexlertown office. His assignments were in engineering, operations and information systems. He was a pioneer inside Air Products in the use of supervisory computers for the control and optimization of chemical and industrial gases in manufacturing plants.

He was active for over 50 years with the Boy Scouts of America, beginning as a Cub Scout and in 1977 becoming the Scout Master for Troop 431, Trexler District, Minsi Trail Council promoting and supporting special events and activities. He was a presenter at District Round Tables, a merit badge counselor and was a resource for advice to other District Troops. His Troop 431, served as a model of how to do Scouting and has thrived and prospered in his 35 years of leadership. More than 300 young men have passed through Troop 431, with 62 becoming Eagle Scouts.

He is survived by a sister, Karen and her husband Glenn Ziegler of Quakertown.

Funeral services, including the Boy Scouts Ceremony, will be held 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the Jeffrey A. Naugle Funeral & Cremation Services, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd., Quakertown. Scouts, family and friends are invited to call 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the funeral home.
