arrested for DUI
State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Steven Angel Werkheiser, 28, of Easton, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol 1:20 p.m. Aug. 4.
Police say Werkheiser was driving a 2005 Honda Civic on Route 22 eastbound at Interstate 476, South Whitehall Township, where police allegedly observed him speeding, tailgating multiple vehicles, swerving in his lane and changing lanes five times without using a turn signal.
Police pulled Werkheiser over and allege he was under the influence of alcohol.
Werkheiser was arrested and taken to Lehigh County Central Booking Center, where he consented to a blood test to determine his blood alcohol content.
Police say charges against Werkheiser are pending.
Driver cited for careless driving
Justin A. McCaffery, 25, of Bethlehem, was charged by police for careless driving after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel 3:18 p.m. July 20 on Route 22, South Whitehall Township, State Police Troop M Bethlehem say.
McCaffery was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Rabbit eastbound in the left lane of Route 22 when he apparently fell asleep and failed to stop behind a 2006 Subaru Outback driven by Nancy A. Ritter, 64, of Allentown. McCaffery's car struck the left rear corner of Ritter's car.
Police say Ritter suffered a minor injury.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
