An Allentown man has been charged with homicide in the July death of a 20-year-old Whitehall Township woman whose body was found in a wooded area in Salisbury Township
Jonathan Nunez, 20, of 253 E. Fairview St., Allentown, was charged Aug. 2 in the death of Kimberly Cardona, who was found the evening of July 5 near the road in the 2700 block of Lanze Lane, Salisbury Township.
Nunez was to be arraigned in Lehigh County Central Booking.
An affidavit of probable cause filed by detectives with the Salisbury Township Police Department and the Lehigh County Homicide Task Force alleges:
At 8:33 p.m. July 5, Salisbury Township police responded to Lanze Lane after receiving a report of a woman lying in a wooded area. The victim, identified as Kimberly Cardona, had numerous injuries to her head, face, neck, hands, legs and torso.
A strong odor of bleach was emanating from the victim's body, and detectives noticed that the victim's clothing appeared to be discolored.
Detectives found a pair of broken glasses on the road nearby and saw numerous broken branches in foliage surrounding the victim's body.
Coroner Scott Grim pronounced the victim dead at the scene and ruled the death a homicide.
On July 6 an autopsy determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck and sharp force trauma to the neck.
Detectives conducted numerous interviews and gathered evidence from the scene.
Lehigh County District Attorney James B. Martin said the arrest was the culmination of a cooperative effort by Salisbury Township police, Allentown police, the Homicide Task Force and the Pennsylvania State Police.
