Freedom track splits vs. Central

Freedom’s boys’ track and field team defeated Allentown Central Catholic, 108-40, and Central’s girls defeated Freedom, 90-58, last Thursday at Freedom.

In boys’ results, Thawadah Rock took first place in the 100 in 11.30, Gabe Caton won the 200 in 23.60, Alexander Heidemann placed first in the 800 in 2:14.00 and the 1600 in 4:48.00, and Dylan Stahl won the 3200 in 11:06.00.

In the 4x1 relay, Caton, Vince Reph, Rock, and Matty Russin won in 44.30.

“We were pretty far ahead when I got the baton, but I don’t even know if he was gaining on me. I’m not sure,” said Reph, who is the Patriots’ anchor. “All season we’ve been rotating in with six guys at this point, so we haven’t really gotten clean hand offs, and today was our first time running together in that order. I think we have our four guys now, and our order figured out, so now we’re just going to try and perfect it.”

In the 4x4, Cade Brandon, Stephen Yarosh, Roberto Santos, and Benjamin Rivera came in first in 3:58.00.

In a photo finish, the 4x8 relay was won by Nick Bauer, Christian Jancsarics, Matthew Parkin, and Josh Noel in 9:03.60.

In jumping events, Alex Reji won the high jump with a 5-07, Ryan Smizaski won the pole vault with a 11-09, and Peter Bast was first in the triple jump with a 35-07.25.

In throwing, Kaden Moore won the shot put with a 38-10.50 and the discus with a 117-05, and Vince Reph won the javelin with a 130-03.

“Every meet I try to go out there and set a new P.R. That’s all it is and try to score points for the team,” said Reph, who did set a new P.R. last Tuesday with a 148-00.00. “I’ll start with a basic five-step approach and then if I’m feeling good, I’ll build in to more of a run up and take it from there. Today there wasn’t anyone from Central who was really close, so right away, my second throw I just went into a full run to see how far I could get it.”

In the girls’ meet, Lauren Charboneau won the 1600 in 5:46.00 and the 3200 in 12:36.00.

Sarah Gill placed first in the high jump with a 4-07, and Evangelia Hahalis won the triple jump with a 30-02.50.

Kilia Ramos was first in the shot put with a 33-03.50.
