Operations director appointed

A new Northampton Area School District director of operations has been appointed.

Jonathan Jenny, NASD supervisor of facilities for a year and a half, will succeed NASD Director of Operations Robert J. Yanders, who retires Aug. 13 after 25 years working for NASD. Jenny has reported to Yanders.

Jenny’s appointment, effective July 1, was approved at the recommendation of the administration by a vote of 8-0 by the NASD Board of Education, with one school director absent, at the Jan. 14 meeting. Jenny’s annual salary will be $85,000, with benefits.

Jenny, a Liberty High School, Class of 2003, graduate, attended Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School while at Liberty and also attended the Universal Technical Institute, Phoenix, Ariz.

Jenny, his wife, Kiri, and their sons, Walter and Henry, reside in Bethlehem.

In other business at the Jan. 14 meeting, school directors voted 8-0, at the recommendation of the administration, to approve the following:

Agreement with Lehigh University for rental of Stabler Arena for 2019 graduation ceremonies at $8,202.98, plus expenses. The ceremonies are 4 p.m. June 1, unless class makeup days for snow days require a later date.

Appointment of Michael Missmer, head girls soccer coach, for the 2019-20 school year, at $7,934, pending receipt of acceptable documentation. The stipend may be adjusted upon settlement of the new Northampton Area Educator Association collective bargaining agreement with NASD.

Resignation of Michael Seng, social studies teacher, for retirement, effective June 5. NASD Superintendent of Schools Joseph S. Kovalchik noted Seng is a 17-year district employee.

Resignation of Deborah Ohmacht, NASD director of special education, for retirement, effective Sept. 6. Kovalchik noted Ohmacht is a 31-year district employee.

Extension of Elizabeth Kish’s employment as long-term substitute kindergarten teacher, George Wolf Elementary School, effective retroactive to Oct. 1, 2018, through March 29, at $274.23 per diem, with no benefits.

Voluntary transfer of Vilma Frederick from special education instructional assistant, Northampton Area High School, to library instructional assistant, NAHS, effective Jan. 28. Her salary will be in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement between NASD and Northampton Area Educator Support Personnel Association.

Bids for fuel oil for the 2019-20 school year, as awarded by Northampton-Monroe-Pike County Joint Purchasing Board, are:

No. 2 fuel oil (truck transport), at $1.9622 per gallon, to Petroleum Traders, Fort Wayne, Ind.

No. 2 fuel oil (tank wagon), at $3.9778 per gallon, to Talley Petroleum, Grantville, Dauphin County

Unleaded gasoline 87 Octane (tank wagon), at $1.7181 per gallon, to PAPCO, Aston, Delaware County

Biodiesel (tank wagon), at $2.0849 per gallon, plus $0.0325 per gallon, for winter additive, to PAPCO

Off-road diesel (tank wagon), at $3.811 per gallon (fluctuating), plus $0.035 per gallon for winter additive, to Talley Petroleum

The Catalog Fixed Discount Program, as awarded by the IU-20 Joint Purchasing Board, will be Jan. 1-Dec. 31.

The school board next meets 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in the administration building, 2014 Laubach Ave., Northampton.
