At the Feb. 6 Northampton Borough Council meeting, members received some bad news - Paw Prints on the Canal will no longer be held.

The event has been a mainstay in the borough for more than a decade.

Councilman Robert McHale reported he has been advised that Tom and Julie Glick, founders of the program, have said the event has been canceled. There was no further explanation or comment regarding the decision to no longer hold the event.

Borough Manager LeRoy Brobst confirmed his office also was told Paw Prints on the Canal is being canceled.

The Glicks were commended for their work in holding Paw Prints, a major event for the community and the region.

Northampton Police Department’s K-9 unit was the beneficiary from funds generated by the event, with thousands of dollars raised annually for the unit.

People from all over the area and beyond, along with many canines, came to Canal Street Park each June for the event.

A large number of vendors were also part of the day, along with rabies shots given to canines free of charge. In 2019, a record 120 vendors participated in the event.

Also last year, $10,340.05 was raised for the police department.
