LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

UPPER AND LOWER MILFORD COLUMN

Welcome to February. We hope the groundhog didn’t see his shadow; that would mean an early spring.

Congratulations to longtime Upper Milford Township resident Sue Smith, who was honored by township supervisors Jan. 7 for 37 years of service to the township. Smith has been a stalwart on the township’s planning commission, as well as serving on the board of supervisors.

The Upper Milford Township Historical Society meets 7 p.m. the last Thursday of every month except November and December. The February meeting, which will be Feb. 27, will feature Mike Fegley talking about antique bottle collecting.

Fegley has an extensive collection of bottles and will talk about where and how he obtained them, and share a little of the history of each one.

The historical society meetings are always interesting and membership is very reasonable, so consider becoming a member. Check out their website, www.uppermilford.org.

Are you a resident of Lower Milford Township who is interested in becoming more involved in the community? The township is looking for a planning commission member: this is an appointed four-year term; meetings are held 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month. Also needed is an historical commission member: this is an appointed three-year term; meetings are held as needed 7:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of the month.

Letters of interest in either of these positions may be submitted to the township manager in-person, through the mail or by email at zcooperman@lowermilford.org. Please contact the township office with any questions.

The Ladies Auxiliary of Citizens Fire Company of Vera Cruz usually meets 7:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Department Social Hall. For more information on fundraisers or how to join the auxiliary, email ladiesaux@vcfd28.com

The recreation commission meets 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The open space committee meets 7:30 p.m. the second Wednesday of the month, only if required to conduct business and the emergency service committee meets 7 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month, also only if required to conduct business.
