The 21st Annual Used Book Sale, organized by the Friends of the Emmaus Public Library, part of a Community Day of Fun, will take place April 13 at the Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road, Macungie. Over the course of these annual one-day sales, the Friends organization has raised well over $172,000 to benefit the Emmaus Public Library.

The event will begin in the school cafeteria 7 a.m. when an estimated 18,000 pre-enjoyed books go on public sale, with many priced as low as 50 cents and $1. Arranged by category for easier shopping, the books will include recent fiction, health and wellness topics, mysteries, histories, biographies, cookbooks, hobbies, business, literature and children’s books. To the delight of collectors, a special section of first edition and rare books will be also be available for sale at market prices.

The sale will shut down 2:45 p.m. for 15 minutes and re-open 3 p.m. for a “brown bag blow-out.” For 45 minutes, shoppers are invited to cram as many books as they can into a standard brown paper grocery bag or standard recyclable grocery bag (like those issued by Giant and Weis Market) and pay just $4 per bag. (Please bring your own bag. One bag per $4 donation or three bags for $10). Book sale proceeds benefit the Emmaus Public Library, located at 11 E. Main St., Emmaus.

A nutrition health and safety fair, organized by Nutrition Inc., the food service provider of the East Penn School District, will take place 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the school’s lobby and parking lot. The public will enjoy free food samples and health information.
