Vox Philia returns for

ARts at St. John’s

Vox Philia returns for the third annual year in the “Arts at St. John’s” series during the Christmas season, 4 p.m. Dec. 18, St John’s Lutheran Evangelical Church, 37 S. Fifth St., Allentown.

The program, “Christmas Is Here!,” features new carols by Bob Chilcott, Kim Andre Arnesen and Alan Smith.

The choir will be accompanied by Berks Sinfonietta in a performance of Jan Zelenka’s “Magnificat in D Major.”

The choir will also offer the local premiere of Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds’ “A Drop in the Ocean,” set to words by Saint Francis and Mother Teresa.

Vox Philia, based in Reading, has achieved a regional reputation performing works from a wide range of music periods and styles. The name of the group, Vox Philia (the Voice of Love) illustrates the practice of devoting a substantial part of its income to charitable organizations.

Dr. David McConnell, Artistic Director, conductor and teacher, founded Vox Philia in 2012 as an intergenerational chamber choir of professional and gifted amateur singers. McConnell co-founded Berks Sinfonietta in 2014.

A free-will offering will be taken.
