High School Musicals: Bethlehem Catholic

Labor trouble strikes and love troubles start when workers fraternize with management in "The Pajama Game," 7 p.m. April 4, 5, 11, 12; 2 p. m. April 6, auditorium, Bethlehem Catholic High School, 2133 Madison Avenue, Bethlehem.

When Babe Williams (Kylie Dunne) becomes spokesperson for the laborers who want a raise she butts heads with Sid Sorokin (Garrett Toole), a supervisor for the Sleep-Tite Pajama Factory. They can't deny their love and soon the place is in an uproar as the factory wheels grind to a halt and the lid comes off the cooked books.

The cast includes efficiency expert Vernon Hines (Christopher Vazquez), grievance committee loudmouth Mae (Madelyn Dundon) and skirt-chasing union head Prez (Joseph Young).

The Broadway production, which opened in 1954, was nominated for three Tony Awards, receiving all three, including Best Musical, Best Choreography and Best Featured Actress. The 2006 revival starring Harry Connick, Jr. in his Broadway acting debut, was nominated for nine Tony Awards, receiving two for Best Revival and Best Choreography.

The musical is directed and choreographed by Debbie Acampora. It is based on the novel, "7 Cents," by Richard Bissell. The book is by Bissell and George Abbott. The music and lyrics are by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.
